The Nightwing Project is a defunct Wayne Enterprises military tech initiative that was later shut down due to complications with mammals while field testing.

History

Under the project name "Nightwing", Wayne Enterprises began developing next generation portable stealth technology for military applications. However, it was shut down after testing, where it was discovered that the signal the tech emitted attracted winged mammals such as bats. During No Man's Land, Lucius Fox provided Bruce Wayne with Nightwing gear, which he used to combat Bane and his Delta Force.

Notes

• The beacon that Bruce Wayne uses to attract bats first appeared in the landmark storyline Batman: Year One.
• In DC Comics, the name Nightwing is most commonly associated with the superhero Dick Grayson. He is the first adopted son of Bruce Wayne, trained to fight crime at a young age as Robin. When he grew into adulthood, he moved to Bludhaven and continued his vigilante activities as Nightwing.
  • Grayson's biological parents, Mary Lloyd and John Grayson, were seen in the episode "The Blind Fortune Teller". Bruno Heller described the episode as "a prenatal origin story for Robin".
