The Gotham Natural History Museum is a natural history museum located in Gotham City.

History

Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth took the Embalming Knife of King Balahsi to the Gotham Natural History Museum so Dr. Niles Winthrop could inspect it. His grandson Alex Winthrop also took an interest in the mysterious knife. He noted that the cuneiform present on the ancient knife was pre-Phoenician, which was then translated by his grandfather Dr. Winthrop through the use of a Palmerian Codex. However, Ra's al Ghul then arrived at night in order to recover his knife, which Niles gave his grandson Alex. Niles Winthrop was killed by Ra's when he refused to reveal the location of the knife.

Alex and Bruce were later tracked down by The Hunter and Anubis at the Natural History Museum. Jim Gordon then arrived and helped Bruce to defeat both League of Shadows members. However, Ra's had managed to hold Alex hostage and demanded the Balahsi knife. When Bruce hesitated, the Demon's Head killed Alex, before kneeling down to let Gordon arrest him.

• The Gotham Natural History Museum is a recurring location in DC Comics. It first appeared in the story "Born For Adventure!" by writer Bill Finger and artist Jim Mooney, which was released in Batman #44 (1947).
• Gotham marked the second live-action appearance of the Gotham Natural History Museum, following the 1966 TV series Batman.
• For "The Demon's Head", the scenes at the Gotham Natural History Museum were shot at the Brooklyn Museum, which is actually an art museum in real life. The episode prominently featured the Brooklyn Museum's Great Hall.
