Season 2 (also known as Rise of the Villains and Wrath of the Villains[1]) is the second season of Gotham. It premiered on September 21, 2015 and concluded on May 23, 2016.

Synopsis

The stakes are higher than ever as Gotham explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved super villains, including The Riddler, Jerome Valeska and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.[2]

Production

Gotham was renewed for a second season on January 17, 2015.[3]

Cast members Drew Powell (Butch Gilzean), Morena Baccarin (Leslie Thompkins), Nicholas D'Agosto (Harvey Dent) and Chris Chalk (Lucius Fox) were promoted to regular status.[4][5][6][7]

James Frain was cast as a new villain - billionaire industrialist Theo Galavan.[8] Jessica Lucas was cast in the role of Theo's sister Tabitha Galavan, who is the show's version of the DC villain Tigress.[9] Michael Chiklis was cast as GCPD captain Nathaniel Barnes.[10] Other new additions to the cast included Natalie Alyn Lind as Silver St. Cloud[11], Michelle Veintimilla as Firefly[12], Nathan Darrow as Mr. Freeze[13] and BD Wong as Hugo Strange.[14]

Although initially claimed that she may not be returning for the second season, Jada Pinkett Smith ultimately reprised her role of Fish Mooney after the character's apparent demise in the season 1 finale.[15]

Meanwhile, Penguin’s visit to some old friends leads him to meet his father, Elijah Van Dahl and Bruce practices his street smarts.

After Gordon is removed from protective custody, he begins to face new threats and dangers inside prison walls. In order to survive, he must rely on a new friend, as well as Bullock and other outside help.
