"Do you remember my father's chickens?"
"I seem to recall the Don's predilection for poultry."
"He understood that life couldn't just be about business. When his troubles were greatest he spent time with his birds...
"
Sofia Falcone and Oswald Cobblepot[src]

Chickens were kept and collected by Carmine Falcone during his time as leader of the criminal underworld in Gotham City. He used to take care of his pets as a way to distract him from the efforts of his business life.

History[]

Don Falcone was originally looking at his chickens when Oswald Cobblepot arrived to meet him, where Falcone complimented Cobblepot on his work so far, and also commented that letting Jim Gordon live might be a mistake, although Cobblebot assures him that Gordon would "see the light, one way or another".

At his warehouse, Falcone met with Fish Mooney and Nikolai, while examining crates of chickens a farmer brought. Both of them argued that allowing Cobblepot to remain alive would be a sign of weakness, but Falcone dismissed them. The most he would do is allow Fish to ask Sal Maroni, politely, to hand over Cobblepot. Meanwhile, he will be sending Victor Zsasz to retrieve James Gordon.[1]

When Oswald Cobblepot visited Sofia Falcone at the Falcone Home and School for Orphans years later, Sofia told Penguin that her father Carmine used to collect chickens as a hobby and that he should take up a hobby as well to distract him from business. Sofia later saw that Cobblepot had followed her advice by befriending Martin.[2]
