The Equestrian portrait of Joachim Murat was a painting by French painter Antoine-Jean Gros, created in approximately 1812. It was owned by Barbara Kean, who had it displayed at her weapons business. The painting was lost when the building was later destroyed by Victor Zsasz on Penguin's orders.
History[]
After she was resurrected by Ra's al Ghul, Barbara opened a weapons business in Gotham City where she also put some older paintings on display.[1] The Equestrian portrait of Joachim Murat was given a central position on one of the main walls.[2]
Like all the other paintings in the building, the Equestrian portrait of Joachim Murat was presumably destroyed when the Penguin had Barbara's weapon business demolished by his enforcer Victor Zsasz, who used a bazooka to blow up the entire building. In case the painting somehow survived the explosion, it was most likely ultimately devoured by the flames when the annihilated building burned to the ground.[3]

Notes[]
- The Equestrian portrait of Joachim Murat, circa 1812, is a real painting by French painter Baron Antoine-Jean Gros (1771–1835). In real life, the oil on canvas painting is currently part of the collection of the Musée du Louvre, Paris. The painting that was used as a prop for the filming of Gotham was obviously just a reproduction of the precious original.
- Joachim Murat, the man depicted in the painting, was a distinguished officer during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. He became a Marshal of the Empire and Admiral, but was later tried for treason. Murat was then sentenced to death by firing squad and executed in 1815 at the age of 48.
