- "He only introduced himself as "Ducard"."
- —An unnamed underworld figure[src]
Ducard was a name used by an unknown associate of the Court of Owls. It is unclear if the name was genuine or only an alias.
History[]
When Johnny Battles came to Gotham City in order to film a documentary about Gotham's criminals, he interviewed various bit players in the city's underworld. He asked them about the mysterious Court that ran Gotham City. One of the bit players he interviewed told him about a mysterious man somehow associated with the Court who she once met. According to her, the unidentified man only introduced himself as "Ducard". It is unknown if this was his real surname or only an alias to cover up his real identity.[1]
Appearances[]
Gotham: A City Gone Mad[]
- "A City Gone Mad: Sirens" (mentioned)
Notes[]
- In the DC Comics, Henri Ducard was one of Bruce Wayne's mentors when he travelled around the world to train before becoming Batman. Ducard was a legendary bounty hunter and assassin who first met Bruce in France. However, Bruce eventually quit getting trained by Ducard when he discovered that Henri actually killed his suspects. Henri Ducard was created by Sam Hamm and Denys Cowan and first appeared in Detective Comics #599, released in 1989.
- In the 2005 film Batman Begins, the name "Henri Ducard" was used as an alias by Ra's al Ghul when he trained and mentored Bruce Wayne before he had become Batman. Bruce later learns that Ducard was actually just an alias of the real Ra's al Ghul.
- In Gotham: A City Gone Mad, the name "Ducard" was only briefly mentioned as a mysterious figure connected to the Court of Owls and never actually identified. However, since it was later revealed in "Heroes Rise: Destiny Calling" that the Court was secretly controlled by Ra's al Ghul, the Sensei and the League of Shadows, it is possible that it is also used as an alias by Ra's in the continuity of Gotham, just like in Batman Begins.
