Burnley is a district located in Uptown Gotham City. It is bordered by Otisburg to the west, Newtown to the north and by Crime Alley and The Bowery to the east.

History

When Carmine Falcone was still the ruling crime lord of Gotham, Burnley was part of his crime family's territory. While he gave over his territories in Fashion District and Theatre District to his underboss Fish Mooney, Burnley was personally controlled by Falcone himself. The location of Don Falcone's territory in the Burnley District and the eastern end of Otisburg was marked on a map of Gotham City that was owned by Oswald Cobblepot. He used it to study Gotham's criminal underworld and the mob bosses controlling it.[1]

Burnley also appeared on the Court of Owls' map of Gotham City.[2][3]

After Edward Nygma was freed from the block of ice in which he was frozen for months, Burnley was included on a city map that Nygma used when he was trying to plan his revenge against the Penguin.[4]

No Man's Land

"I want a ring of fire, ten blocks wide! If anyone stands in your way, burn them!"
Bridgit Pike giving orders to her gang[src]

When Gotham City became a No Man's Land, Firefly and her newly formed gang claimed an old factory in Burnley. Bridgit ordered her thugs to extend the territory by forming a ring of fire around the whole district, instructing them to burn anyone who stands in their way.[5]

In the following months, Bridgit cemented her position as the ruler of the vast majority of Burnley District. By day 87, her territory had extended to include the southern tip of Newtown, as well as the northern end of Crime Alley. However, at this point, Bridgit and her gang had also engaged in a turf war with Mr. Freeze, who had claimed The Bowery as his territory.[6]

During the No Man's Land crisis, Firefly's territory in Burnley was marked on James Gordon's city map at the GCPD.[7][8]

At some point over the course of the next months, the GCPD managed to reclaim the sector previously controlled by Firefly and her gang. By day 391, all the villain territories in Gotham had become part of the GCPD's Green Zone.[9]
